Innichen Ski Area: Skiing on Haunold and in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites
The San Candido ski area consists of two parts: Located directly in the center of San Candido, the family ski area and local mountain Haunold warmly welcomes its guests. Only 4 kilometers from San Candido, in the district of Vierschach, is the entrance to the Three Peaks Dolomites ski area, the main ski area of the region.
Our tip for families: Start relaxed at Haunold – clear, sunny, and ideal for practicing. Take a few leisurely runs in the morning, rent a toboggan at the top at lunchtime, and combine skiing fun with a toboggan ride. If your legs get tired, come back to our farm relaxed in the afternoon – the little ones can then explore the snow outside the front door or visit the stable.

The 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area is located amidst the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites and presents wonderful nature and unforgettable views. Regularly operating ski shuttles and the brand-new ski train transport snow-hungry skiers to the ski Eldorado of the Dolomites.
115 kilometers of slopes on 5 connected ski mountains, which are linked by 31 modern ski lifts, await you. 3 Zinnen Dolomites takes you to the heights of Helm, Stiergarten, Rotwand, Ski Area Val Comelico, and Haunold. Enjoy the view of the surrounding mountain peaks before you race down towards the valley.
The 5 mountains of the 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area:
- Helm
- Stiergarten
- Rotwand
- Ski Area Val Comelico
- Haunold
In addition, the ski lifts in Prags, at the Rienz Skicenter Toblach, Waldheim/Sexten, and Kreuzberg are available to you. The 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area aims to reach the top of the Dolomite ski areas with a structured development plan. The 31 ascent facilities are considered the most modern in the entire Alpine region. Nevertheless, the ski area is still considered an insider tip. You will rarely encounter overly crowded slopes here. A big plus for safety and skiing pleasure.
You can find out more about the individual ski areas Haunold, Helm, Stiergarten, Rotwand, and Rienz in another blog post - The 5 most popular ski areas in and around San Candido.
Interesting: The 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area was formerly called Sextner Dolomiten-Alta Pusteria. The very popular Sexten ski area is now part of the large ski region in Hochpustertal. The Sexten ski area specifically included Croda Rossa, the Rotwand, and the Helm-Sexten cable car. Monte Elmo, Helm, geographically belonged to the San Candido ski area. The access to the Helm lifts was in Vierschach, which is now the starting point for the 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area.
Looking for an adrenaline rush? If you are particularly daring, you can hurtle down the steepest ski slope in South Tyrol in the Rotwand ski area. The approximately 700-meter-long Holzriese II slope has a maximum gradient of 71%.

Dolomiti Superski
Dolomiti Superski - The Superlative for Your Ski Holiday in the Dolomites
Do you love it big? Innichen with its local mountain Haunold and the 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski resort are just a part of Dolomiti Superski, which unites 12 ski resorts in the Dolomites with 1,200 kilometers of slopes:
- Cortina d'Ampezzo
- Kronplatz
- Alta Badia
- Seiser Alm/Val Gardena
- Fassatal/Karersee
- Arabba/Marmolada
- Sextner Dolomiten-Alta Pusteria
- Valle di Fiemme/Obereggen
- San Martino di Castrozza/Rolle Pass
- Eisacktal
- Trevalli-Moena/S. Pellegrino/Falcade
- Civetta
As you can see - many other well-known huge Dolomite ski resorts are not far from our Glinzhof mountain farm and the Hochpustertal and offer you, your family, or friends triple the skiing fun. The 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski resort is still often referred to as Sextner Dolomiten-Alta Pusteria.
Alternatively to Ski Pustertal Express and the Kronplatz ski resort, the Olympic city and ski resort Cortina d'Ampezzo can be reached in just 30 minutes by car.
What's new in the 2026/27 season: The Vierschach-Helm "Helmissimo" gondola lift
The old 6-person gondola lift from 1989 is history: For the 2026/27 season, the new 10-person Vierschach-Helm gondola lift ("Helmissimo") from manufacturer LEITNER will go into operation. Over a length of approximately 3,052 meters, it overcomes 915 meters in altitude from the valley station in Vierschach (1,132 m) to the mountain station on the Helm (2,047 m) – in only about 9:20 minutes. With a transport capacity of 3,000 people per hour, it brings you to the mountain much more comfortably than the previous lift.
The Helm-Sexten cable car has also already been replaced by the modern "HELMJET Sexten" – a detachable premium 10-person gondola lift with three times the transport capacity of the old lift. And the Moos-Sexten ski slope is now firmly part of the network: The blue slope leads from the Drei Zinnen slope to the Helm and connects Helm and Rotwand in a family-friendly way, without having to navigate the challenging Stiergarten.
Snowboarding in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region
Of course, snowboarders can board down the slopes in the ski resorts of the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region. A snow park and fun park also await the snowboarding community:
At the snow and fun park in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area at the Hahnspiellift near Helm, Stiergarten, Rotwand, and Kreuzbergpass, snowboarders can show and further improve their skills on the funslope, kickers with jump & ramp, rails & slides, boxes, WaveRides, wave tracks, Medium Line, and Beginner or Easy Line.

Tobogganing in Innichen, Sexten and the surrounding area
Tobogganing for the whole family
Of course, skiing in South Tyrol is the number one sport. However, fans of other winter sports will certainly not miss out in Innichen and the surrounding area. Tobogganing and sledding is a popular sport, just like skiing in the Pustertal. Many excellently prepared toboggan runs and numerous natural toboggan runs are available to tobogganers from near and far for endless tobogganing fun.
We don't want to withhold the 3 top toboggan runs in Hochpustertal from you:
- Haunold toboggan run in Innichen
- Rotwand toboggan run in Sexten
- Innerfeldtal toboggan run between Innichen and Sexten
Our tip from Glinzhof: All three are worth a trip – but our personal favorite is the Innerfeldtal toboggan run. The secluded Innerfeldtal has something magical for us: Directly in front of the Dreischusterhütte, where you can enjoy excellent refreshments, the 5.5-kilometer long toboggan run starts.
You can find more tips, equipment, and information about tobogganing at Glinzhof on our tobogganing page.
Haunold toboggan run in Innichen
The Haunold offers an extremely family-friendly toboggan run that children and adults alike enjoy.
- Length: approx. 3 kilometers
- Start: Mountain station at 1,500 meters, ascent with the four-person chairlift
- Difficulty: easy, also suitable for children alone
- Helmet requirement: for children under 14 years
Due to its family-friendliness, even the youngest can ride down the toboggan run into the valley alone – of course, with a protective helmet.

By the way:
- Helmets and toboggans can be rented directly at the valley station
- Worth trying: the "Rennböckl" – a seat plate with side handles on an old ski, steered with the hands, braked with the feet
Rotwand Toboggan Run in Sexten
Do you want to experience more tobogganing fun? No problem! In Hochpustertal, you don't have to travel far for it.
- Length: 5 kilometers
- Altitude difference: 700 meters
- Difficulty: medium to difficult
- Ascent: comfortably with the Rotwandwiesen cable car
- Destination: Moos valley station
Once you reach the top, a fantastic view of the Sexten Dolomites awaits you. Along the way, the perfectly groomed toboggan run leads through the snowy winter wonderland forest. At Rotwandwiesen, you can indulge in fresh South Tyrolean delicacies.
Tip: Along the slope lives a herd of reindeer from Scandinavia – the only one of its kind in the entire Alpine region.
Innerfeldtal Toboggan Run between Innichen and Sexten
The Innerfeldtal valley lies between Innichen and Sexten and exudes a very special charm all year round.
- Length: 5.5 kilometers
- Altitude difference: 350 meters
- Access: approx. 4.5 kilometers from Innichen towards Sexten, then right into Innerfeldtal
- Ascent: on foot from the 1st parking lot, approx. 2 hours uphill to the Dreischusterhütte
The path leads through the idyllic winter forest; the thinning forest gives way to a breathtaking backdrop of steep Dolomite walls. At the valley floor, you reach the Dreischusterhütte directly at the start of the toboggan run – fancy a small refreshment beforehand, before heading back down into the valley?
Tip: You can rent a toboggan or sled directly at the Dreischusterhütte if you don't have your own. Alternatively, you can rent toboggans or sleds from us at Glinzhof, subject to availability.
Our favorite story: After a winter hike through the snow-covered spruce forest to the Dreischusterhütte, with the Dolomite walls at our backs, we warm up inside with hot cocoa and homemade dumplings – then we head down into the valley with a rented sled. Pure deceleration.
Night Skiing and Night Tobogganing on Haunold
Every Tuesday and Friday between 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM (29.12.2026 – 12.03.2027), you can ascend Haunold for night skiing and night tobogganing. The combi-ticket, including lift pass, toboggan rental, and headlamp, costs €53.00 for adults (juniors €37.00, children €27.00, seniors €49.00). Of course, you can also comfortably use the four-seater chairlift for this.
Our favorite story: When the lights on the slope come on after dinner and you whiz down the run with a headlamp under the starry Dolomite sky – the laughter and sparkling eyes at the finish line are not easily forgotten.

Winter Hiking, Snowshoeing, and Ski Touring in Innichen
When winter hiking, snowshoeing or ski touring, you can experience the nature of Innichen and South Tyrol in a very special way. The mountains, the sun, the snow-covered nature, the crunching snow, the cold clear air - a winter hike, snowshoe hike or ski tour holds a very special magic. Directly from Innichen or the surrounding area, you can explore some breathtaking winter hiking trails, snowshoe routes and ski tours.
A winter hike on the path from Innerfeldtal to the Drei Schuster Hütte, which is also excellent for tobogganing on the way back, is particularly recommended due to its impressive views.
A winter hike or snowshoe hike from Wildbad to Jorahütte and Riese Haunold Hütte leads through snow-covered forests and winter landscapes. The hike starts directly in Innichen towards Sexten along the Sextner Bach.
You can find more inspiration on our pages for winter hiking and snowshoeing at Glinzhof.
Ski touring is the epitome of peace and freedom, far away from hustle and stress. A ski tour in the Three Peaks Dolomites area leads up the mountain through the solitude of a deeply snow-covered landscape. The reward for the strenuous ascent is a magnificent panorama and a descent through untouched powder snow. Particularly recommended is the Sextner Stein ski tour through the Sexten Dolomites with a view of the Three Peaks - simply magnificent. You can find out more about the winter alternative program in the PDF.
Our tip: Weather and snow conditions, your own fitness and skiing ability, as well as the appropriate equipment, must be included in the planning of a ski tour. An experienced mountain guide always keeps these points in mind and can show you the most beautiful ski tours in Hochpustertal.

Not enough winter sports, action and adventure yet?
As you can see, winter sports enthusiasts will find their paradise in every respect not only in South Tyrol, but especially right here in Hochpustertal. Not enough winter sports, action and adventure yet?
You can go ice skating in three villages in Hochpustertal. In Sexten, Toblach and Niederdorf there are the most beautiful ice rinks to practice figure skating, speed skating or simply balance exercises.
Bavarian curling is a winter sport that delights young and old, combining movement, fun and games. It requires a steady hand and feel. You can try Bavarian curling on Lake Toblach, in Niederdorf and in Sexten.
A horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snowy winter wonderland allows you to experience nature in a very special way, and such a carriage ride is also extremely romantic. Wrapped in warm blankets, a horse-drawn sleigh ride is an unforgettable adventure for two or the whole family - to be experienced in Sexten and Toblach.
Tips for families in Innichen and Hochpustertal
We would like to specifically recommend visiting the Haunold ski area again as part of our family tips, because on our local mountain, which you can see directly from the windows of the Glinzhof, you can do much more than just ski and toboggan. Haunold is a true family fun mountain with ski slopes for all skill levels, a children's play park, and a children's ski-cross track.
You have already read about the Rotwand as part of the 3 Zinnen Dolomiten ski area and as a toboggan run. The Rotwand is equally an absolute idyll for families. Combine the sled ride with a visit to the only reindeer herd living here in the Alps. You can have a lot of animal fun at the reindeer feeding, which usually takes place daily at 2:00 PM. The reindeer feeding is a magical pleasure for visitors, as you are allowed to enter the enclosure to help. At the Rotwand, you will also find the informative ski learning path "Rudi Reindeer Trail”.
Spectacular: At the mountain station of the Rotwand, you can admire our 8-meter-high giant snowmen and giant snowwomen. Fancy a photo session with the photogenic snow sculptures?
