Winter Hike Val Fiscalina - Talschlusshütte

The Val Fiscalina (Fischleintal) is worth seeing in every season and is always enchanting. In winter, you can explore the valley on foot during a winter hike, or by cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or even on a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride. Val Fiscalina is located in Sesto (Sexten), branching off at the village of Moso (Moos) and leading into the Three Peaks Nature Park to the head of the valley. The Sesto Dolomites—including the Cima Nove, Dieci, Undici, Dodici, and Una, collectively known as the Sesto Sundial—line the path.

Skitour Fischleintal

The 4.5-kilometer-long Val Fiscalina, which is perhaps the most beautiful valley in the world, ends at the aforementioned valley head, where the wonderful Talschlusshütte welcomes you. After a delicious refreshment in the cozy hut, featuring a panoramic view of the Croda Rossa (Rotwand), the Punta dei Tre Scarperi (Dreischusterspitze), and the peaks of the Sesto Sundial, you can set off on your return journey with renewed energy.

From the Talschlusshütte, you can continue with snowshoes up to the Dreizinnenhütte (Rifugio Locatelli), which offers an impressive view of the Three Peaks (Drei Zinnen). However, the Dreizinnenhütte is closed in winter, so be sure to pack enough provisions. The starting point for this winter hike is the Fischleinbodenhütte, which is accessible by car or public bus.

Winter Hike Innerfeldtal - Dreischusterhütte

Between San Candido and Sesto, the road branches off into the wonderful Innerfeldtal. The Innerfeldtal is known year-round as a popular recreational area. In winter, it offers excellent opportunities for winter hiking and tobogganing. The winter hiking trail starts from the Innerfeldtal parking lot on Innerfeldstraße and brings you within an hour to the Dreischusterhütte, situated at an altitude of 1,626 meters.

Skitour Fischleintal

At the Dreischusterhütte, which offers an impressive panorama of the surrounding mountains, you can enjoy excellent Tyrolean cuisine. The great and unique thing about this winter hike is that you don't have to make the return journey on foot: you can rent sleds directly at the Dreischusterhütte and toboggan back down the path you just climbed.

The natural toboggan run is considered an easy, particularly family-friendly run and is therefore huge fun for all ages.

Winter Hike to the Source of the Drava

You can start the winter hike to the Source of the Drava directly at the Glinzhof. The path leads downhill towards San Candido, following the Haselberg towards Dobbiaco. This scenic route runs above the Pusteria Valley state road. Near the Neuner group, at the Toblach Field, the Drava rises on the right-hand side of the path. The Drava, a tributary of the Danube, then flows eastward through Tyrol and Carinthia (Austria), Lower Styria (Slovenia), as well as Croatia and Hungary.

Skitour Fischleintal

The inflow of the Sextner Bach (Sesto Stream) causes the Drava in San Candido—previously just a small brook—to grow into a river. In Lienz, it is further fed by the Isel. At the Dobbiaco parish church, the path continues south towards New Dobbiaco, past the train station. After the Euregio Gustav Mahler Cultural Center, the path bends left towards the "WaldWunderWelt" (Forest Wonder World) playground.

Along the Lärchwald-Drau path, the winter hiking trail leads back via the Bahnhofstrasse in San Candido and up again to your starting point at the Glinzhof, passing the Klammschlössl (where you can start a shortened version of the hike). Starting directly from the Glinzhof extends the hiking time accordingly. From Dobbiaco, you can also take the bus or train for a comfortable ride back to San Candido.

Winter Hike to the Nemesalm

The winter hike to the Nemesalm leads along the Carnic Ridge above Sesto. The Nemesalm is located on the eastern side of the valley, which is characterized by gentle slopes. The opposite western side is defined by the Sesto Dolomites and their striking rock formations, offering a wonderfully beautiful panoramic view from the other side of the valley.

Skitour Plätzwiese

Equally gentle is the ascent along winter hiking trail no. 13, which leads up from Moso in Sesto through rural settlements, alpine pastures, and wooded areas.
From the Nemesalm, a spectacular view of the Cima Dodici (Zwölfer), Croda Rossa (Rotwand), and Punta dei Tre Scarperi (Dreischusterspitze) opens up. At the Alpe Nemes Hut, you will be pampered with small but exquisite delicacies. Thanks to its simplicity, the path is perfectly suited for a family winter hike.

The same route leads you back to the starting point. The Nemesalm is not only excellent for winter hiking but is also the perfect destination for cross-country skiing, ski touring, and mountaineering on the Carnic Ridge and the High Trail.

Winter Hike Brückele - Prato Piazza

A true winter dream is the Prato Piazza (Plätzwiese) in the Braies Valley, which we certainly don't want to keep from you. Situated at 2,000 meters, Prato Piazza is an alpine plateau in the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park and a paradise not only for winter hikers but also for snowshoe hikers, cross-country skiers, and ski tourers. Cars with winter equipment are only permitted to drive up to Prato Piazza until 10:00 AM. However, during the winter months, a shuttle bus runs every hour up to the plateau.

Skitour Fischleintal

To go on a winter hike to Prato Piazza, we recommend taking the winter hiking trail starting from the Brückele parking lot. The path follows the road for about 500 meters before branching off onto the dedicated winter trail. The path leads you through the snow-covered winter forest until just before you reach the high plateau.

Once at the top, you can enjoy the magnificent view of the Hohe Gaisl (Croda Rossa d'Ampezzo), Helltaler Schlechten, and Dürrenstein. On Prato Piazza, rustic inns await you, where you can indulge in traditional delicacies. You can return on foot or simply take the shuttle bus back down.
