- Tuesday: Dolomiti senza Confini – Dolomites without Borders
- Wednesday: Dolomites Cinema
- Thursday: Via Forgotten Shepherd Paths / Along Smugglers' Trails

Because the Autumn³Time program in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region is such a fantastic offer, we would like to introduce the varied weekly schedule to you in more detail. Of course, you can also simply use it as inspiration and discover the Sesto Dolomites, the Three Peaks, and the surrounding area on your own.
Dolomiti senza Confini – Dolomites without Borders
Every Tuesday, things get adventurous: under the motto "Dolomites without Borders," participants in this expedition climb across old mountain galleries, World War I ladder systems, and suspension bridges to reach the summit cross.
Famous peaks and rock formations of the Dolomites, such as the Monte Paterno (Paternkofel), Torre di Toblin (Toblinger Knoten), and the Sesto Sundial, are experienced up close. The Innerkofler via ferrata, with its view of the Three Peaks, runs along the Italian front line of the First World War. Alpine scenery and history unite for an eventful day.
Dolomites Cinema
At the Dolomites Cinema, you truly feel like you're in a movie—overnight stay included. Along the Dobbiaco High-Altitude Trail, the captivating autumn splendor takes center stage. With views of the striking Dolomite formations and their "white walls," the experience focuses on stories about the mountains, the local people, and their unique culture.

An impressive sunset on the Dobbiaco Pfannhorn is followed by a night at the Bonner Hütte, where you can witness a spectacular sunrise over the Three Peaks. After a hearty alpine breakfast, the Dobbiaco High-Altitude Trail leads you to the Marcher Hütte. This hut offers views of the Sesto Sundial and serves as the perfect spot to refuel for the final leg of the journey back down into the valley.
Via Forgotten Shepherd Paths & Along Smugglers' Trails
Thursdays offer two exciting highlights for adventurers and those eager to learn. "Via Forgotten Shepherd Paths" through the Braies Valley – alongside Hebs, the mountain hut host of the Rossalm and an alpine shepherd, visitors hike from the foot of the Croda Rossa from Prato Piazza to the Rossalm. Together, you will prepare a rustic alpine meal and experience daily life on the mountain at 2,164 meters.

“Along Smugglers' Trails over Mount Elmo” starts from San Candido by bus to Vierschach, followed by a cable car ride up to Mount Elmo at 2,050 meters. The hike follows the "Hüttensteig" trail to the Sillianer Hütte, where you can stop for refreshments. At the old Helmhaus, situated at 2,434 meters on the Italian-Austrian border, you can enjoy a 360° panoramic view while learning fascinating stories about the area's history.
Bike Tour to the Sesto Mountain Pastures
Every Monday, the bike tour to the Sesto mountain pastures sets off from Sesto. The tour lasts approximately 6 hours and heads towards Mitterberg in the direction of the Nemes Alm. Once you reach the "Saumad" plateau at 1,750 meters, the trail leads off to the Klammbach-Alm.
A breathtaking panoramic view of the Three Peaks reveals itself. During the guided tour, a break is taken at the alpine hut to enjoy South Tyrolean delicacies and traditional local music. The scenic Sesto circular trail then leads back down the valley to Sesto.
Three Peaks Sunrise & Nature – A Guide for My Life
On Fridays, participants set off early in the morning for an absolute highlight of the program: experiencing the sunrise at the Three Peaks. The journey begins with a minibus ride to the Auronzo Hut at 2,330 meters, followed by an ascent to the Paternsattel (Paterno Pass).
The morning atmosphere is at its most intense during the "blue hour," just before the sun rises. For the return journey, you can choose your own path: options include taking the bus, or hiking back via the Three Peaks Hut (Dreizinnenhütte) through the Fischlein Valley and Innerfeld Valley, or via the Büllelejoch Hut and the Fischlein Valley.

In "Nature – A Guide for My Life," the focus is on experiencing and enjoying a resonance with nature. During this hike around Villabassa, participants are encouraged to experience the colorful autumn scenery and receive personal messages and answers from Mother Nature. As a special surprise, participants will also receive a small gift.

Enjoyable Autumn Days in San Candido and the Alta Pusteria Valley
In autumn, the South Tyrolean climate is not only pure and clear, but a very special scent lingers in the air. Even in Italy's northernmost region, the apple harvest and the grape vintage have begun. Many regional products are waiting to be sampled in the numerous agriturismo establishments and farmhouse parlors. In San Candido and the Alta Pusteria Valley—and indeed across all of South Tyrol—culinary events invite you to taste the bounty of nature. Beyond the 3 Zinnen Dolomites region, South Tyrol has even more to offer in the autumn.
Treat yourself to regional delicacies during the "Heugabel" (Pitchfork) days and traditional Törggelen, and experience many more highlights during your South Tyrolean autumn holiday.
Heugabel – The Craft and Farmers' Market in San Candido
For many years, autumn has been welcomed in a very special way in San Candido, where the harvest, its local products, and long-standing traditions are celebrated during the "Heugabel" (Pitchfork) festival. The craft and farmers' market at Pflegplatz, the heart of San Candido, heralds the start of the autumn season and is dedicated entirely to farmers and traditional craftsmanship. The "Heu" (hay) symbolizes the homegrown products of the local farmers and is synonymous with the farmers' market itself.

The "Gabel" (fork) serves as a symbol for the culinary specialties in San Candido that find their way from the harvest to the table and plate. Naturally, visitors to the market can also purchase these local delicacies to take home. Traditional specialties of the Alta Pusteria cuisine are prepared for guests to enjoy by the farmers’ wives from the surrounding farmsteads.
During the "Heugabel" days in San Candido, ancient craftsmanship is also brought to life and showcased. With around 20 local artisans—including goldsmiths, cloth weavers, lace makers, basket weavers, and potters—you can experience these traditional trades firsthand.
A special highlight, unique in all of South Tyrol, is the "Scarecrow Competition" held during the festival. The scarecrows found in gardens, in front of houses, and on balconies range from grumpy to hilarious; they seem to invite closer inspection—perhaps even from our feathered friends—rather than scaring them away.
Potato Week & Potato Festival in Villabassa
To mark the beginning of autumn, Villabassa has dedicated an entire week to the potato. This week is capped off by the two-day Potato Festival. In various restaurants and inns throughout this Alta Pusteria community, the "Erdapfel" (potato) takes center stage on the menu. A wide variety of traditional dishes are served, showcasing the potato in combination with other local products.
The finale of the Potato Week is the Villabassa Potato Festival, where everything revolves around this starchy tuber and the typical Tyrolean dishes made from it. Traditional music, a farmers' market, and surprises for children round out the program. Get to know the potato in a completely new way and let yourself be inspired by its South Tyrolean versatility.
Alpine Yodeling – Culinary Delights & Music in Braies
The "Pragser Almjodler" stands for delicious specialties accompanied by traditional music. This alpine festival is held at the Plato Piazza (Plätzwiese) and Rossalm mountain huts, bringing together typical Tyrolean music and classic delicacies against a backdrop of breathtaking panoramas. Various musical groups perform well-known traditional tunes in both huts. Additionally, a market featuring products from farmers, craftsmen, and artists takes place on Sunday. This festival is a treat for both the palate and the ears—definitely worth a visit!

Please note: Please be aware of the access regulations during the summer months. During this time, the Braies Valley (Pragser Tal) can only be reached by public transport, on foot, or by bicycle.
Dolomiti Gourmet Festival in Toblach
At the Dolomiti Gourmet Festival, food lovers from all over can discover and indulge in creations by renowned international chefs. Michelin-starred chef Chris Oberhammer from Restaurant Tilia in Toblach, along with the festival organizers, invites you on a journey through the world of culinary excellence.

Alongside creations from an international elite of chefs, you can sample the finest wines at the Dolomiti Gourmet Festival. Experience the culinary diversity of the Italian and Austrian Pustertal Valley in an exclusive setting, surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Dolomites.

Active Highlights in Autumn in the Alta Pusteria Valley
The 3 Zinnen region and the Alta Pusteria Valley offer several athletic highlights in their event calendar during the autumn months. Beyond these scheduled events, every vacationer can, of course, create their own unforgettable experiences through a wide variety of individual activities during the autumn days in the Dolomites.
South Tyrol 3 Zinnen Alpine Run
At the South Tyrol 3 Zinnen Alpine Run—or the Corsa delle Tre Cime, as it is known in Italian—approximately 1,000 runners, including both amateurs and international elite athletes, tackle a distance of 17.5 kilometers and 1,350 meters of elevation gain every year. The starting point of the Three Peaks Run is the village center of Sesto. From there, the race continues through the Fischlein Valley to the Talschlusshütte, then climbs toward the Zsigmondyhütte and the Büllelejochhütte, which is the highest and simultaneously the smallest mountain shelter in the Sesto Dolomites.

The finish line is the Drei Zinnen Hut (Rifugio Locatelli), located at the foot of its namesakes, the Three Peaks—a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Dolomites. The Three Peaks Run is considered a classic in the scene and reveals spectacular views to mountain runners throughout the entire race. The run takes center stage all weekend long, framed by music, local cuisine, and a fantastic atmosphere.
3 Zinnen Vintage Car Rally Tre Cime
The 3 Zinnen Vintage Car Rally, presented by the Toblach Vespa Club and Alexander Kraler, kicks off under the motto: "Get on your oldtimer for a vintage day and a retro drive." Anyone can participate in the Toblach Vintage Car Rally—the only requirement is that the vehicle you wish to enter must be at least 25 years old. The starting point is the Grand Hotel Toblach, where a wide variety of showpieces can be displayed and admired.
In 2022, three rally routes were completed by different groups, and the organizers are always on the hunt for new tracks. The event itself, which is unique in the region, boasts highlights such as a potential sightseeing flight over the Three Peaks, a buffet with finger food and drinks for participants, wine and gin tastings, a souvenir photo, and a raffle. The requested dress code: retro/vintage.
Stoneman Hike Dolomiti
Presented by Roland Stauder, the Stoneman Hike Dolomiti challenges participants to overcome 56 kilometers and 3,350 meters of elevation gain. You can experience the Stoneman Dolomiti Hike as a personal trekking adventure along secluded paths, staying true to the motto: No racing, just the desire for freedom.

On registered hiking trails, hikers and runners for whom daily stages with 1,500 meters of elevation gain are not too great a challenge can complete the tour in 2–3 days. There are three checkpoints where you must stamp the card or the wristband that is included in the Stoneman Hike Dolomiti starter pack.
This allows everyone to experience their Stoneman Dolomiti Hike adventure in a completely individual way. The starter pack is available at any of the Stoneman distribution points. In addition to useful accessories, the pack contains a roadbook, which makes navigation much easier.
Der Stoneman Dolomiti Hike findet einmal im Jahr im September als Event statt, an dem die Läufer den Rundwanderweg gemeinsam bestreiten können.

Tradition and Culture in the 3 Zinnen Region
The traditional events in the 3 Zinnen region are deeply rooted in agriculture and stem from ecclesiastical traditions. The cattle drives (Almabtrieb) in the villages of the Alta Pusteria Valley reflect the rural way of life that has been cherished in this area for centuries.
The parish fairs (Kirchtage) have always been a cornerstone of social life and a meeting point for both young and old. Additionally, cultural highlights such as the South Tyrol Festival (Festspiele Südtirol) are firmly established in the region's event calendar.
Cattle Drive & Parish Fair
The cessation of grass growth and the onset of cold weather dictate the timing for moving the livestock from the alpine pastures down into the valley, where the herds then spend the winter season. In the Alta Pusteria Valley, this time arrives in mid-September, when the cattle drives in Toblach and Sesto are celebrated.

For the cattle drive (Almabtrieb), the cows are elaborately decorated with traditional floral headdresses.
While in former times the religious context was the primary focus of the parish fair, today it is a folk festival for the entire local population. These fairs are celebrated in all the villages and towns of the Alta Pusteria Valley with the parish fair tree (Kirchtagsbaum), the "Kirchtagsmichl" effigy, as well as a church service and procession.
South Tyrol Festival
Every year at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, the South Tyrol Festival (Festspiele Südtirol) takes place at the Gustav Mahler Cultural Center in Toblach. A diverse, high-caliber program is presented over three weeks in the Gustav Mahler Hall.

At the former Grand Hotel Toblach, where culture, music, and nature have now taken root, well-to-do society once came to rejuvenate a century ago. Today, these historic premises are used for cultural events, seminars, conferences, projects, and numerous other gatherings. Even outside of the South Tyrol Festival, the center remains a vital space for encounter and exchange.

Beyond Alta Pusteria and the 3 Zinnen – Autumn in South Tyrol
Extending beyond the Alta Pusteria and the 3 Zinnen area, South Tyrol entices vacationers with special autumn highlights. In South Tyrol, the harvest season is defined by the grape harvest and the arrival of young wine.
Highlights of the cooling season include "Törggelen," a tradition famous well beyond the borders of South Tyrol. This ancient custom, following the grape harvest, has been a cornerstone of local farming culture since time immemorial. The South Tyrolean Wine Road also offers the perfect opportunity to sample young wines and noble vintages.
Törggelen
As part of the traditional autumn custom of Törggelen, "Buschenschänken" (farmhouse inns) open their doors to serve guests their own house-made young wine and typical South Tyrolean specialties, such as roasted chestnuts. These "Buschenschänken" are rustic farm taverns where you can indulge in culinary delights within an authentic atmosphere.

Törggelen originally hails from the Isarco Valley (Eisacktal), which connects the Stubai Alps and the Dolomites. Today, the tradition remains primarily centered in the Isarco Valley, and a visit to this South Tyrolean valley is well worth the trip. However, within the Dolomites region, there are also several places to stop where "Buschenschank" and "Hofschank" (farmhouse taverns) offer guests the chance to indulge in house specialties.
Chestnut Delights
Traditional Törggelen includes young wine, but roasted chestnuts—known locally as "Keschtn"—are also an absolute must. Along the "Eisacktal Chestnut Trail" (Keschtnweg), you can enjoy a breathtaking autumn hike through small villages, wineries, mixed forests, and chestnut groves, wandering through woods filled with the changing colors of vine leaves and autumn foliage. In many farmhouse inns (Buschenschänken) on either side of the trail, you can savor roasted chestnuts accompanied by a glass of young wine and South Tyrolean specialties during a Törggelen feast.
South Tyrolean Wine Road
The South Tyrolean Wine Road is also well worth a detour from the Glinzhof during the autumn season:
Italy’s oldest wine road runs between Nals and Salurn. Vines have been cultivated here for 2,500 years. Passing through 16 villages and numerous wineries, estates, castles, and palaces, the landscape of the South Tyrolean Wine Road is defined by its rolling hills and sprawling vineyards.

The Mediterranean climate favors the cultivation of international grape varieties, which are developed into world-class wines. The native varieties—Vernatsch, Lagrein, and Gewürztraminer—thrive particularly well under these climatic conditions.
So: Let’s go! Head to South Tyrol for an autumn vacation in the 3 Zinnen region of the Alta Pusteria Valley. Experience unforgettable moments in indescribable nature, filled with flavorful culinary delights and exceptional active highlights. Soak up the radiant glow of autumn.
