Advantages of a short trip to South Tyrol

When a long weekend is on the horizon, remaining vacation days need to be put to good use, or you simply need to escape the daily grind, it’s time for an exciting short break. Both the reasons for and the benefits of a short trip are many and varied.

A Plus Point for Short Trips

The first major plus point for short trips is temporal flexibility. A longer vacation requires a larger number of days off. However, not only for parents of school-aged children but also for many employees and employers, a multi-day holiday is often only possible during specific periods, such as summer or over the New Year.

A short break, on the other hand, can be realized with just two or three free days and is therefore frequently enjoyed as a weekend holiday. Since we are fortunate enough to enjoy a weekend every single week all year round, a short trip can be taken in any season. How fitting that South Tyrol, of all places, is worth a visit at any time of year. When asked where it is most beautiful right now, our answer is always: In South Tyrol!

A second, major advantage is the matter of cost. A long vacation can be quite expensive: airfare, high accommodation costs for many nights, meals on-site, and so forth. For a short break, however, you only need a few overnight stays, pay for fewer days of catering, and usually benefit from lower travel costs, as destinations for short trips are often nearby. Short getaways are therefore perfect for those on a smaller travel budget. For this reason, we at the Glinzhof also offer special savings offers for short-break travelers.

The third reason in favor of a weekend holiday is the short travel time we just mentioned. When you only have two or three days at your disposal, you don’t want to spend the majority of that time traveling to and from your destination. That is why many short-break travelers choose nearby locations. Vacation spots easily reachable by train, bus, or a short flight are ideal. This allows you to clear your head and simply unwind from the moment your journey begins. Thanks to its geographical location, South Tyrol is a popular destination for travelers from Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, and Southern Germany.

Simplified Vacation Planning

Another advantage is the simplified planning involved. For just a few days, you need very little luggage, and that eternal question of what kind of holiday to choose is answered much faster. Looking for a cultural trip or a culinary journey? Should it be an active weekend or a few days of wellness? For such a short period, it’s usually easy to agree on a common theme. And if you can’t agree, then you simply take a weekend trip twice a year. Or three times. Or four. Or you just come to visit us at the Glinzhof in Innichen / South Tyrol. Here, all your vacation wishes can be fulfilled at once (with the sole exception of the sea).

Why we recommend autumn for a weekend holiday in South Tyrol

Short Trip to South Tyrol

A short trip is possible all year round. However, we believe that South Tyrol is particularly perfect for a quick getaway in autumn. The mass tourism of the summer has just subsided, and the winter crowds are not yet in sight. In the Three Peaks Nature Park, the cable cars remain open until mid-October, and many hikes or bike tours take on a very special charm thanks to the golden canopy of leaves and the mild temperatures. And best of all: autumn is harvest time, bringing culinary delights to the table.

What Autumn in South Tyrol Has to Offer

We South Tyroleans simply love autumn and celebrate it not only with a variety of harvest festivals but also with an ancient custom called "Törggelen." Behind this term lies a tradition of feasting at the highest level in great company. The meal includes savory "Kaminwurzen" (smoked sausages), the famous South Tyrolean Speck, flavorful hay-milk cheese, traditional meat platters with "Surfleisch" (cured pork), roasted chestnuts, homemade "Schüttelbrot" (crispy flatbread), a delicious barley soup, and many other treats. These are served alongside samples of the current season's young wine and unfermented grape juice.

As we pamper our guests at the Glinzhof with exclusive products from the region and our own farm, our autumn menu is particularly exquisite.

The peace and quiet, fresh mountain air, and sunshine have a wonderful effect on a baby’s well-being.

... Full of Fun with Children

Whether it’s playing hide-and-seek in the meadows or woods, romping around the farmyard, or feeding animals in the stable – a holiday at our family-friendly Glinzhof is packed with adventure. It’s not for nothing that our mountain farm also carries the title Children’s Farm. And parents don't miss out either: we are happy to look after your little ones for a few hours so that you can enjoy some exclusive time together. For instance, in our small and refined wellness oasis. This way, every member of the family gets exactly what they need, and you’ll return to your daily routine with a warm, happy feeling in your heart. ...

... Romantic for Couples

For a romantic weekend for two, we recommend our Wellness Package for 2 People. We have often praised the beauty of the Dolomites. Against this stunning backdrop, you can enjoy your time together—for example, in our outdoor pool with a 360° panoramic view of Innichen and the surrounding mountains of the Alta Pusteria. Alternatively, the chalet features a Finnish sauna, accessible all day, where the infusions can be customized to your wishes. Our delicious evening menu is the perfect way to bring the day to a wonderful close.

... Full of Variety for Solo Travelers

Sometimes you simply need to recharge your batteries on your own. A short break as a single traveler can be incredibly versatile, putting your own needs and interests front and center. At the Glinzhof, we strive to fulfill them all—whether it’s hiking, cycling, discovering local culture, or simply enjoying our Spa Oasis.

Depending on what you want from your getaway, we recommend: find a quiet little spot at the Glinzhof to reconnect with yourself and enjoy some "me-time," or seek out the company of our other guests and make new friends.
